- Hi, I'm John McWade. You work hard to get your thoughts into words and your words into type, so that others can read you and understand. But our modern attention span can be measured in seconds, and if your type isn't immediately clear, lines too long, too tightly spaced, font hard to read, you'll lose your reader and your work will be for nothing. The job of type, whether it's on paper or on glass, is to release its information smoothly and clearly and attractively, without the reader even realizing that it's there.
In this course, I'll show you how to do that. We'll look at all the details that make up a perfectly set paragraph, from the big things like type size, line length, and spacing, to the small things, like indents, correct dashes, and primes. We'll look at how to smoothly justify text in even the narrowest column, and I'll show you how to set up perfect dropcaps and the text that leads out from them. Type is the foundational building block for all written communication, and setting good type is an essential skill for every editor, writer, and designer.
Let's look at how to do that.
