Aeolian mode

- Moving along here, the next mode is the Aeolian mode. In the derivative approach, you can create the Aeolian mode by starting on the sixth degree of the major scale. By the way, we've already learned this mode as the natural minor scale. Here, we have A to A in the key of C major, which gives us the A Aeolian mode. Here's what it sounds like. (guitar music) Using the parallel approach, the Aeolian mode is a major scale with a lowered third, sixth and seventh degrees. So, the degrees of the scale are root, two, flat three, four, five, flat six and flat seven. As our example we have C Aeolian mode, check out the sound of this mode. (guitar music)
