Welcome to our new series Monday Productivity Pointers. Each week I’ll take a look at a different productivity tool and release two videos on the topic. These pointers can be a great way to test-drive tools and see if they’re right for you. But even if you’ve used them before, you’re likely to discover at least one feature that you probably didn’t know about!
I’ll share tools that I personally use all the time. They’ve helped me become more organized, professional, and mobile, and my hope is that they’ll do the same for you. From managing your finances with Mint.com to monitoring your online influence with Klout to creating presentations directly on the iPad with Keynote, check weekly to see what topic I’m covering and how it can help make you a more productive version of yourself. Do you have a tool you’d like me to cover? What’s your favorite online productivity tool? Let me know in the comments section below.
This week’s Monday Productivity Pointers is all about Google+ Hangouts.
In the first video, I’ll show you the basics of setting up a hangout: what you’ll need, how to test your equipment and invite friends in, and what to do once you’re there. A Google+ Hangout is perfect for a remote meeting with coworkers—no muffled audio or trying to figure out who is speaking in an echoing conference room. It’s just you and up to nine other people talking face-to-face, getting work done.
The second video builds on that foundation, explaining how to go “on air” and stream your hangout live via your YouTube channel and Google+ stream so that anyone can stop by and watch your event.
I show you how to create an event on your Google+ page, invite your customers to watch your panel, and then paste the YouTube URL right into that event page after your hangout is created.
The best part about using an event? You’ll show a technological savviness that reflects on your professionalism. You’ve tidily placed your panel into a Google+ Event instead of sending around a lengthy and confusing URL that could get altered or typed incorrectly. As a bonus, any clients or customers who have accepted the invitation will get a handy reminder right before the Hangout On Air begins. The reminder will take them directly to your event page, and they can watch the embedded event right from there. That’s what I call productive!
