We all need creativity in our lives—whether we’re students, executives, scientists, designers, office managers, writers, teachers, or anyone else. So lynda.com created a new course designed to unleash and hone your creativity.
The 21-Day Drawing Challenge with Von Glitschka starts today, offering a fun new drawing challenge each weekday (Monday through Friday) for 21 days. The final challenge will be August 29.
The goal isn’t to turn you into a professional illustrator or fine artist—it’s about improving your drawing skills and creative thinking, no matter if you’re an expert or have never drawn more than a doodle on a notepad.
Dating back to 30,000 BC, drawing is a critical part of both human communication and personal expression. It improves hand-eye coordination, as well as your understanding of form and shape, and lets you quickly communicate ideas that may be difficult to put into words.
Each daily drawing challenge can take as long as you like, from a few minutes to a full hour; it’s up to you. We recommend roping in a friend to commit to the 21-day challenge with you—you can keep each other motivated and accountable. And be sure to add daily alarms to your calendar so you’ll remember to check in with the course and try the latest challenge.
You’ll just need five common items:
If you’re shy about your drawings, keep them to yourself. No one’s looking, we promise!
But if you’d like to share them on Facebook or Twitter, we’d love to see them. Use the hashtags #draw21days and #learnatlynda
And if you post a drawing each day—on Von’s Facebook page—you may win prizes, including:

The drawing challenge is free and open to all lynda.com Facebook fans through August 29. Become a Facebook fan to access the challenge.
Do you have to start on the first day, or can you jump in anytime?
You can start the 21-Day Drawing Challenge anytime you like. Just remember that it’s only free through August 29; after that, only lynda.com members will be able to access the challenges.
How will I remember to do it every day?
Set up alerts on your phone and bookmark the course page so it’s easy to get to. We’ll post daily Tweets to remind you, too. We recommend roping in a friend to do the challenge with you—to keep you motivated and on track. But if you miss a day or two, don’t worry; you have the weekends to catch up.
How do I post my drawings?
You’re welcome to keep all of your challenge drawings private—no pressure! But we’d love to see any that you’re super proud of. Post them to your Facebook, Google+ or Twitter page using the hashtag #draw21days. Search for that tag to see what others have come up with; maybe you’ll be inspired! Occasionally we’ll share some of the posted artwork on our social media pages.
How do I enter the prize drawing?
Challenge author Von Glitschka is sponsoring a prize giveaway* through his own company, Glitschka Studios. Check out his Facebook page for details of where and how to enter.
