In this ZBrush training lesson, your instructor demonstrates the methods he uses to create a clean Polypaint. You will learn the dark-to-light technique, which produces a "drybrush" antiquing effect. Fill a model with a black color, then paint in each color slowly, permitting the color to build up naturally, adding highlights, but retaining areas where the black shows through, for lowlights.
- [Instructor] Okay, I'm now complete with my sculpt…and very happy the way everything turned out…and I'm ready to begin polypainting.…So, let me show you the methods that I like to use…when polypainting.…The first thing I'll need to do in order to get…a good, clean PolyPaint is to switch my material out…to something that has a bit more of a white base.…So you can choose something that has…somewhat of a cavity, which is what I like to do,…or you can go with more of a flat shader.…
Now for this demonstration I'm going to…work on one of the pumpkins and…the technique that I like to use…is what I call a dark to light.…It's kind of a traditional way of painting…in oil painting, however it works really well within Zbrush…and I'm gonna show you basically…the method that I use for that.…Now the way this painting works…is we're utilizing the cavity…when we paint so for example,…I'm going to paint the pumpkin…completely black and then I'm going to start…building up the color from dark to light…working with either the PolishB Brush, or the PenB Brush,…
