Lighting terminology and purpose

- When it comes to lighting a character, you want to be able to show off everything you possibly can. You don't want to hide anything. Let's talk about some advanced lighting techniques that can really show off your creature. Okay, so as you can see, we have a very dark character. Let's add a light in there. I'm going to show you the three point lighting system that is kind of a standard in photography and showing off 3D models. The first light, I want this to be a fill light. Let's bring this down to the bottom right. And we can kind of play around with our gamma a little bit and our falloff. And we want this to be a real soft diffuse light, so I usually barely put any strength in this light and even just where we're at right now is I think is now a good spot to stop for the fill light. Let's add a new light, and this one will be our key light. So I can kind of put this on the more focused areas of the face, the places we really want to show off.
