- Can you swear on YouTube? You bet your (beep) you can. Can you swear on LinkedIn Learning? Abso-(beep)-lutely not. So, this might be a challenging topic to discuss, but stay with me. (upbeat music) Using profanity on YouTube has been a long debated topic ever since the creation of the site. For years, YouTubers have wondered whether using profanity in videos negatively affect their channels. And finally, at the beginning of 2019, YouTube released clear guidelines on exactly that. (swoosh) Currently, YouTube breaks profanity down into three categories. Light profanity, which includes swear words like hell and damn. These videos are okay for monetization. Strong profanity, which includes more intense swear words, but are usually repeated multiple times throughout a video. You can monetize these videos, but some advertisers might prefer not to advertise on them. And finally, profanity in your title, thumbnail, or being used in a hateful way.
