(light music) Okay so you've got your YouTube video uploaded, you've decked out your title and description and now it's on to the dreaded tag section. It's like a ghost town down there. If you're not sure what to put down there, don't worry, you're not alone and I've got some great tips for you. But first, let's dive in to a brief explanation of what tags are and how they work. You can think of tags like keywords, they're single words or full phrases that relate to your video and help boost your SEO. So if you were doing a video on Game of Thrones, you might use tags like thrones, dragons, or hodor. But you could also use full phrases such as Game of Thrones, John Snow, or Will George RR Martin Ever Finish Book 6. Just type them in and separate them by a comma, as long as these words and phrases relate to your video you're all good. It's also important to remember that tags work with your title and description just like chocolate works with peanut butter. Oh, so good. Oh, sorry. YouTube's algorithm uses this combined information to categorize your video effectively, so it's important that you have strong accurate tags right away when you release your video. Also it's important that you don't try to trick YouTube by putting in popular tags that have nothing to do with your video, doing this will negatively affect your video's appearance in search results. Remember YouTube's basically a giant search engine, so the more you help viewers find you with related tags, the more YouTube will serve you to those viewers. Okay so now you understand tags, now let's discuss some tips that will help you really turn it up to 11. (guitar music) Just like I mentioned before, YouTube is basically a giant search engine, and one of the best things you can do before releasing a video is search for related search terms and videos. Go up to YouTube's search bar and begin typing in one of your potential tag words or phrases. Here you'll see YouTube will begin to suggest related searches, as long as these phrases relate to your video, go ahead and use them. So now that you know these tips, you'll no longer know nothing about tags like John Snow.
