Choosing a bitrate for streaming
- [Instructor] Next, you need to choose a maximum, sustained bitrate for your encoder. Now how do you know which is the best setting for your circumstances? There's a handy section in YouTube's live streaming guide entitled "Live Encoder Settings, Bitrates and Resolutions". You can find that at support.google.com or you can just do a Google search for this title. Now you want to use the highest resolution you can reliably stream. And in my case, the information I got from doing a speed test at speedtest.net let me know that my upload speed is around 10 megabits per second, which is enough to handle the highest setting of 1080p, let's go look at that again. So 1080p requires 6,000 kilobits per second. If we translate what my upload speed is, which is 10 megabits per second, it means I have 10,000 kilobits per second and that's enough to handle the highest setting of 1080p.
