- [Instructor] A little more than a decade ago, a collaboration consultant at Eli Lilly, named Bryce Williams, introduced the term working out loud. Williams described this as a way of working that is observable, but with a willingness to talk about one's work, to ask for help publicly, or describe what you're learning in the work processes so that your learning can be beneficial to the other people in your company. By working out loud, Williams said, we all work smarter, we all work better. The team that built Yammer embraced this concept, and designed Yammer to support working out loud. The essence of Yammer is public access to every single group, because working transparently gives other people the opportunity to offer opinions or assistance, or simply learn from us.
