- [Instructor] Now that you're finished celebrating and making a list of all the things you're going to purchase with your first advance check, let's get down to business and talk about something extremely important, contracts, or rather, a very specific contract, your first book contract. Once your offer has been accepted, the next thing that will happen, if it hasn't started already, is your agent will get to work negotiating your contract with the publisher. Granted, some basic terms should have already been decided in your offer, like your advance, the payout structure of your advance, maybe an estimate of when your book will release and also which foreign territories, if any, are included in the offer. But after the initial deal terms are agreed upon, then the agent will focus on the specific details of the contract.
