Be knowledgeable
- Everyone's an expert in something. Maybe you're steeped in the intricacies of punk rock history. Maybe you've been fly fishing since you were five. Maybe you bake pastries like nobody's business or wrote your dissertation on Middle Eastern politics. Whatever you're most knowledgeable about, whatever topics you know backwards and forwards, inside and out, those are the ones you want to share in your blog, and here's why. We've already established that the most compelling posts are useful to readers. It follows then that they want to hear from an expert, someone who knows more about the topic than they do and can bring them up to speed on whatever the subject is, whether it's personal finance, travel tips, or creative projects. So how-tos, explainers, and handy listicles, those numbered lists that break down an article into simple, easy-to-digest points, are a great way to show off what you know and make readers feel like they've tapped into a gold mine.
