The four ninja levels

- Okay now, before we begin I want to encourage you to make a little mindset shift because I want, as you go through this course, I want you to view it through this particular lens. For me, I always think of the purpose of my writing, the improvements to my writing is to boost two qualities. One is comprehension and the second is beauty. So, I have this idea. These are really, for me, the gods of writing. I want to make it as comprehensible as possible and I wanna make it as beautiful as possible. And so, all the little tweaks and changes that I'm gonna give you at the four levels are all about enhancing each of those qualities. Now, sometimes as a compromise and sometimes you have to give up some beauty in order to create better comprehension. Sometimes you have to sacrifice comprehension in order to create more beauty, but that's a judgment that you can make and you'll be empowered to make that choice yourself after you know all of these tactics. So, lemme just tell you more about these subtle refinements that these principles are gonna help you make to your writing. As I said, on the narrative section we're looking at the piece as a whole and in that section I'm going to be talking about how to begin a narrative, how to get past, for instance, writers block, how to actually get your content started. And then I'm gonna look at how to organize the content that you have produced, okay? And then I'll give you tactics about how to start well, how to finish well, and basically enhance the overall impact of the whole piece. Now, in the paragraph section I'm gonna be talking about different paragraph styles and how you should move between paragraphs, different ways that you can organize your material into paragraphs. On the sentence level, we're gonna look at how to make your sentences more elegant, more rhythmic, more poetic, so there's a bunch of tactics there, subtle refinements that are gonna give power to that level of your writing. And finally, we're gonna look at the word level and things like how to create pictures in your writing, how to avoid abstract and technical words, how to add color to your words, and how to order your words in a way that maximizes their impact. Now, I'm pretty sure you're gonna have a lot of ah-ha moments during this course and that's what I want, and you'll be saying, "That's something I do" and "That's something I can change." Now, all these concepts are gonna start getting embedded into your mind through a lot of exercises, a lot of examples and a lot of explanation. And through all that, you're gonna be in a position at the end where you have a huge amount of choice about how you express yourself, and I think you're gonna like having that power. And once you have that power, you're also going to start getting a lot better feedback for whatever it is that you are writing, so really looking forward to taking you through these concepts. My heart and soul has gone into creating this framework, and I just know that it's gonna have a really big impact on the way you write. So, come on. Let's get started.
