The definition of a pitch
(bright music) - [Instructor] Let's get on our way to finding that perfect agent. The first step in our agent search process is creating and perfecting your pitch. So what exactly is a pitch, and why is it important? Essentially, publishing a book is all about selling a book. As much as some of us artists hate to admit that there's a business side to our art, there is, and in order for your book to be successful, everyone along the way has to sell it to someone else. I call this The Chain of Awesome, which you might have heard me talk about in some of my other writing courses. Basically, The Chain of Awesome consists of multiple levels of people who have to convince other people that your book is awesome. In order to get your book published by a major publisher, you first have to get a literary agent, and to get a literary agent, you have to convince one that your book is awesome so that they'll represent you.
