The beauty of simplicity
- Writing is easier to comprehend and absorb when it has the minimum amount of complexity in it. It's usually better, therefore, to aim for maximum simplicity. In this section, I'll show you the numerous tricks and tactics you can use to simplify your writing to the highest degree. The techniques that many journalists use to create what we call tight writing. Tight writing is writing basically that has no redundancy. It's economical. Every word is there because it is necessary. Every sentence is expressed as concisely as possible with minimum extraneous detail so that there's no long-windedness or bloatedness. There's no needless complexity that makes comprehension difficult. The heaviness of official language is also stripped out as much as possible, and distractions that arise from unnecessary punctuation, for example like quote marks or hyphens when you don't really need them, are eliminated.
