From the course: Develop Blockbuster Story Ideas That Sell

What to expect

(calming music) - In this course, we're focusing on ideas, or more specfically, ideas that sell. The strategies and exercises presented in this course apply primarily to novel ideas and screenplay ideas, but they could also apply to short story ideas, stage play ideas, or any other kind of narrative fiction. There are tons of great books and courses out there that teach you how to outline or write a story, but before you can do any of that, you need one thing, an idea, and not just any idea, a great idea. A captivating idea. An idea that will make people go ooh, I want to buy that, or ooh, I want to read that! So how do you come up with a great idea that will grab the attention of your audience, whether that's readers, agents, publishers, or movie producers? Well, that's exactly what we're going to cover in this course, so let's get started! Here's what you can expect throughout the rest of this course: First, we'll start with some introductions. This will include a short overview of exactly who can benefit from this course, and a quick introduction to high-concept ideas, what they are and why they're so super important in your writing career. In the next section, we'll move on to breaking down the high-concept idea so we can better understand it. This is where I'll give you my four secret, yet essential ingredients, that can be found in any high-concept idea. This will be a helpful foundation later on in the course when you set out to brainstorm your own high-concept ideas. Next, I'm going to provide you with five proven strategies or methods for coming up with high-concept ideas. And finally, we'll talk about how to put it all together, everything you've learned in this course and all the great new ideas you've come up with. Throughout this course, I'll be providing you with tons of exercises designed to help you apply everything you've learned and get your creative juices flowing. You can approach these exercises however you'd like. You may want to do them as we go along, or you may prefer to listen to all the lectures first and then go back and complete the exercises at the end. Either way is totally fine, it's whatever makes the most sense to you. The exercises are all provided within this course as downloadable PDF files with detailed, step-by-step instructions so you don't have to go back and listen to the lecture again in order to complete the exercises. So, that's about all you need to know. Are you ready to get started? Let's do it.
