- You can say the same thing in so many different ways, can't you? Take a bland sentence like this one. I went yesterday to the Ideal Home Exhibition and saw a range of modern furniture that made me feel instantly like redoing my apartment. You'll hopefully agree that there is very little character or tone in that sentence, right? The narration isn't particularly colorful. It's very, shall we say, vanilla. That's because there isn't any sort of recognizable voice that's coming through, is there? As a piece of writing, it's therefore kinda flat. And so I want you to try and rewrite it to give that same thing some character. Okay, now compare the original and your version with this one. Sickened by the sorry state of my apartment, I dropped into the Ideal Home Exhibition thirsting for inspiration.
