- [Instructor] So now that you know what to put in your query letter, let's talk about a few technical details. First, length. It's my belief that a query letter should not exceed one page. If you're sending an email query, it's sometimes hard to tell how long it is, so I would draft your query letter in Word, or another word processing program, before copying it into an email so you can gauge how long it is. Not that an agent is going to measure it, and then throw it out if it's too long. But I like to think that if you can't sell your book in one page or less, then you haven't mastered your pitch yet. Because remember you're not the only person who has to sell this idea in one page, you're just the first person who has to prove it can be done.
