Structural elements of a white paper

- As we've looked at white papers throughout this course, you might have noticed some structural elements that make them distinctive. We'll particularly consider everything before the main text begins, what's known in publishing as the front matter. Our model is this 132-page document called Harnessing Energy From The Sun. Now that's way too long for the document we'll produce in this course, but the good thing about this behemoth is that it has everything. We'll use it as a sort of general inspiration and pick and choose elements that we want in our paper. This paper starts with a cover, publication information, sometimes called a colophon, and a title page. The cover and title page are both like a royal servant announcing guests as they arrive. "Here's the paper," they say. I'll call them announcement elements. We'll come back to the colophon in a minute. Then there are three introductions, each written by a different kind of authority, an industry leader, a domestic government…
