- Now as you know, I've always stressed the value of writing economically. It's one of the things I constantly talk about. But sometimes you can't be writing something, and you've done everything you can, to make it as economical as possible. You've cut as much hot air out of it. You've removed all the implied words, all the hedging words, all the redundant words, and you still find that, it's a bit longer than you would like. Okay, now where do you go from there? Where do you go from there? Well, you can sort of split the sentence in two, but there was also another option that you can go to, and that is to look at the syllables, within the words that you've got in that sentence. Because syllables can be one, two, three, and that can just draw out the amount of time, it takes to read a particular word, so a sentence can seem longer, because the words in it have more syllables, so there's a dimension of writing, that not many people think about, pay attention to but you will now.
