- Now I'm going to give you an example of a three-paragraph piece of writing also about Australia, and the third paragraph is going to reverse in. But you'll see that doing this might actually help in terms of the rhythm and flow of the writing. The United Nations has delayed a decision to place one of Australia's top tourist attractions, the Great Barrier Reef, on its list of endangered world heritage sites. The UN has given Australia a year to act and says the reef may lose its world heritage status if the country doesn't comply with the recommendations by then. Since a commodities boom began a decade ago, Australia has struggled to balance the interests of its mining companies and those of tourism operators and others whose livelihoods are tied to the fragile reef. Notice that the last paragraph begins by backing into the sentence, whereas the previous two sentences proceed in a forwards way. Now, doing that doesn't disturb comprehension terribly.
