- [Instructor] Before we get into the nitty gritty of the publisher submission process, first let's do a quick overview of the way publishing houses are set up. This will help you better understand what's going on during the publisher submission process. Each of the major publishers, like Penguin Random House, Macmillan, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, et cetera, is broken into smaller divisions, or what are referred to as imprints. Popular imprints that you may have heard of are St. Martin's Press, an imprint of Macmillan, Pocket Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, Avon Books, an imprint of HarperCollins, Viking Press, an imprint of Penguin Books, Double Day, an imprint of Random House, and so on. Some of these imprints can actually be broken down into even smaller imprints. For example, St. Martin's Press, who publishes my women's fiction titles, is broken down into St. Martin's Griffin, St. Martin's Minotaur, Picador, Thomas Dunne Books, and a few others.
