- [Narrator] So, it's now time to start organizing your list into something a bit more manageable. Let's return to our analogy about looking for colleges to apply to. When I was instructed by my high school guidance counselor to start researching colleges, he told me to break my list into three categories, top choices, middle of the road choices, and backup schools, or safety schools. The same goes for your agent search. I would recommend breaking your agent list down into the same three categories, top choice agencies, middle of the road, and backups. Although I should note even though backups or safety schools are by definition schools that you know you can get into, with agency searches it's extremely rare to have an agency on your list that you know will offer you representation. So, I define the backup agencies as agencies that are not your top, top choice, but with whom you still think you could be happy.
