- When you're sitting down to write your quick-start guide, ask yourself this important question. Are there steps my user must take to get started or are there tasks my user may want to complete? Must or may, that is the question. And your answer to that question will enable you to develop the structure for your guide. Here's an example of a must quick-start guide also known as a procedural guide. It was created by a college admissions office. It's called the Quick-Start Guide to Registering for Orange Valley University Placement Test. And it helps students follow five steps which they must follow in sequence. One, go to orangevalleyuniversity.edu/PlacementTests. Two, log in to your account with your username and password. Three, under Options, click Register for Placement test. Four, read the Rules and Guidelines, then click Acknowledge. Five, click Schedule Test, and choose a test, location, and date.
