- Once you've got your intent together, you've got your audience sensibility sorted out, you know your content, you know your tone, you know your pace. The next thing is to begin writing. Writing really consists of points. I want you to start thinking of writing as a series of points. Now these points can be organized in different sentences or in paragraphs or whatever, but essentially you're making, in business writing, especially you're making a series of points and it's these points that move what I call the narrative forward. Let's just look at an example of the kind of narrative you might be writing. Let's say you wanted to write a review of the Star Wars movie The Force Awakens. You know your intent. Your intent is to persuade people, say, to go see this movie. Maybe your audience is Rotten Tomatoes, a bunch of people who just go there to look at which films to go and watch. You've decided that your tone is going to be chatty and informal. You're not gonna be too overly serious.…
