- Now, all professions use their own type of insider language. Okay, it helps them to communicate in short hand with each other. But, the jargon words and expressions they use often don't carry that well outside of those professions. You need to stay mindful of this, especially if you're writing for a mainstream audience or readership. A doctor who does a bit of blogging for a general audience shouldn't keep saying BP for blood pressure without making clear what they mean at least first off. So, imagine you read, you know, the letters FTP repeatedly in a policeman's blog, would you know that it meant failure to pay? So you've got to look at the audience. There's also a type of general business jargon which came up a lot when I was an editor on business newspapers. Expressions like short selling, due diligence, sweat equity, which don't necessarily carry well outside of certain specializations. In politics you have jargon like POTUS, for President of the United States, or SCOTUS, for…
