How to stay focused
- So, I have this neighbor. She's a doll, very friendly. But she loves to chat, and inevitably when I'm flying out the door, running late, she'll stop me in the driveway to tell me a quick story. Only, and maybe you know where I'm going with this, it's not a quick story. She starts off with a clear and relevant goal, something about our dog and her hydrangeas. But then the tale begins to meander and weave, and pretty soon we've lost the thread entirely and I'm hearing about the grandkids' gymnastics and by the way have I ever been to Aruba? It's a lesson in patience. When you're in a hurry and you're seeking specific information, a message that doesn't get right to the point can be frustrating, and it's wise to assume that readers who stop to read a blog post are almost always in a hurry, and that they're specifically seeking what your headline promised them they'd find in your post.
