Getting rejections
From the course: Sell Your Novel to a Major Publisher
Getting rejections
- [Instructor] Now that you've started submitting your query letters, let's talk about responses. As I mentioned before, after you submit a query to an agent, you'll get one of two responses. An agent will respond with interest or an agent will respond with a rejection. We're going to discuss both of these scenarios and how to handle each of them. Let's start with the worst-case scenario first, the one we all hate, getting rejected. It happens to everyone, it will happen to you, I can almost guarantee it. The first book I tried to get published, which was never published, was rejected by more than 50 agents. The second book I tried to get published was rejected by more than 40 agents. Then once I finally did sign with an agent, the manuscript was rejected by 12 publishers before I received my first offer. You hear these stories every day. Just Google best-selling author rejection story, and see what I mean. You probably won't meet a published author today who does not have at least…
