- [Narrator] Let's go through a few important dos and don'ts for querying in general. Please keep these in mind as you send out your query letters to agents. One of these can cost you representation, so it's really important that you follow them. Always follow the agency's submission guidelines. If they have guidelines posted on their website, then they want you to follow them. Failing to follow them will only make them think you didn't do your research before you queried them. If an agency does not have submission guidelines on their website, or in your agent directory, then just email them a query letter and nothing else. Never submit a full or partial manuscript to an agent unless it's requested. This is a huge no-no and can result in your query letter simply getting thrown out. For email queries, never attach anything to the email, unless specifically asked to do so by the agent or their submission guidelines.
