- So there are deadlines and then there are deadlines. From time to time you may be asked to write something in a matter of hours, maybe even minutes. The tips in this course can and should be applied to those situations in the most streamlined way possible, but if you've got a few days, a week, a couple of weeks, then it's worth taking the time to sketch out a rudimentary timeline. The simple act of listing out the various tasks involved in completing your project, from brainstorming to proofreading, and estimating the amount of time it will take to do each one, does two important things for you at the outset. First, it makes you feel like you've got a handle on the situation, and second, it actually gives you a handle on the situation because now you're in command of your time rather than your time sort of looming over you threateningly.
