- Let's dive into grammar and spelling, the mechanics of writing. I know what you're thinking, but we're not going to slog through the stuff we're all supposed to know. Instead, let's talk about the best ways to make sure you write, speak, and represent yourself as an intelligent, capable professional. A little bit of effort and patience, can make all the difference when checking your grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling. Before hitting send, read your work aloud. Our ears are excellent calibrators. When something sounds strange, it's usually wrong. Trust your ear. When you read aloud errors become self-evident. The comma and period tell us when to pause or stop or maybe you uncover missing words. For instance, Melissa sends me an email that says, Oversight in TPS report for client has left the team unable to proceed on the job order in the next week and caused confusion for the team.
