- Let's talk about the simple, but perhaps most important, aspect of self-editing and proofreading, double-checking the content of your work before submission. To keep things simple, we'll discuss this using an email as our example. But this applies to all formats of business communication, memos, notes, texts, and more. When you're asking for or supplying information, take a moment to make sure you are clear and accurate. Before hitting send, consider why you're sending the message. What do you need? Do you need a piece of information, or do you have information you need to supply to someone else? For example, I need to know a meeting time. I think it's tomorrow at 10 a.m., but I'm not sure if that's Eastern or Pacific Time. I'll ask Melissa. In my message to her, I'll put exactly what I need up front.
