Arouse the senses
- One of the best ways to make your writing more stimulating is to create vivid pictures for your readers. The simplest way to do this is to write sentences that focus on people and action because both of those things are things that you can see. That way you stimulate readers' senses. Look at this sentence: Where applications for citizenship are concerned, the available forms on the desk are required to be attended to. Do you know one reason why that's not very stimulating to read? It's because it's hard to visualize anything, right? Try to watch your mind as you read those words. Watch it and try to find something, some image to grab onto. It's a bit of struggle, right? You can see forms and a desk perhaps, but the rest is kind of a haze. You can sorta get the idea behind it, but no image comes through very powerfully, does it? How can we change that and make it more visually powerful? Well, we can try and turn it into a picture. So, have a go at doing that yourself first…
