- [Instructor] The LEED rating system rewards project teams for avoiding certain types of lands. Project teams are encouraged to build on previous developed sites, while avoiding five types of sensitive lands we will discuss. According to LEED credit sensitive land protection, the first type of sensitive land that is encouraged to be avoided is the prime farmland. Agricultural areas provide social, environmental, and economic benefits. Food production is directly correlated with our survival. Agricultural areas also provide other benefits, such as rainwater management, as well as economic benefits of self-dependency for food, and support of local farmers. Project teams should also avoid flood plains and flood lines. You can imagine why this type of location is to be avoided, due to risk of flooding and destruction.
