- After creating new posts or pages, you may find that you need to make some quick changes. This might be changing the title or the slug, or the publishing date, or author, or category, or tag, or status, or something else. In many cases, these are quick actions and they don't really require you to open the entire post in the editor. Instead, you can use the Quick Edit function from the post or page index view. To get to the Quick Edit function simply go to either All Posts or all Pages and hover your mouse over the field where you have one of your posts.
So I can go to this one, "Want to take great product photos? Here's how!" And you see the Quick Edit option shows up among the other options. When I click on Quick Edit, I open a small editor view within the index page here where I can make some quick edits to my content. Here I can quickly change the Title and my Slug. I can change the publishing date and time. If I have more than one Author activated on my site, I can use this dropdown to select who published this particular post. I can set a Password, change the Categories, add a comma separated list of Tags, toggle comments on and off, and also change the Status from Published, to Pending Review, to Draft, and also make the post sticky.
While Quick Edit is simple to use for individual posts, it is its most effective when you have to Bulk Edit several posts. Let's say I want to change the author of four different posts. From my index view, I can select the four posts in question, so I'll just make a selection here. Then I go to the top or the bottom where I have the same dropdown that says Bulk Actions then I click Edit and then Apply. This will list out what posts I'm currently Bulk Editing. So here you can see it's a list of four posts and I can click on the red X on the left-hand side here to remove any of these posts from the Quick Edit.
Then, I can either apply new Categories, apply new Tags, or change the Author. So I'm going to change it to "monster monstere" change the Comments, change the Status, change the post Format, change Pings, and also change whether or not these posts are Sticky. Once I've made the changes I want, in this case, changed the Author, I click Update and this change now applies to all four posts at the same time. Now as I do this again, it's important to note that from here you can only add Categories or add Tags.
Unfortunately, you can't bulk remove categories or tags using the Bulk Editor. If you want to remove categories or tags, you need to do that on an individual basis. It's also worth noting that for whatever reason the Quick Edit function does not allow you to toggle post formats. However, the Bulk Edit function does allow you to toggle post formats. So if you want to change post formats, you actually have to use either the Bulk Editor or go into the individual post editor. To get the most out of the Bulk Editor, combine it with the search box and also the filters here to find exactly the post you want to edit and edit them all on the fly instead of going through the tedious content management task of opening individual posts, editing individual settings, saving them, going back to the index, opening another individual post, changing those individual settings, and so on and so on.
