Modular, mobile-first web design ensures your WordPress themes are performant and lightweight, and work well across all screen sizes and devices. This video tutorial discusses how to set up a forward-thinking design philosophy for your projects.
- [Instructor] Look around you and you'll see…smartphones, and tablets, and other…web connected devices everywhere you go.…And a proliferation of these mobile devices…with different input methods and different screen sizes…have caused a drastic change in the way we do…web design and development.…The tried and true method of creating pixel perfect…graphics in Photoshop or iIlustrator,…and then creating HTML and CSS versions of them…is simply no longer valid.…The current best practice for web design is…Modular Mobile-First Design,…and that's what we'll be doing in this course.…
What does that mean?…Three things.…First off, instead of designing an entire page…with all it's content, we're going to design modules…that fit together to form a full view.…That way, things can be moved around and connected…in a more dynamic way.…Secondly, we'll design and build everything for small…screens first, specifically a vertical smartphone,…and then when everything looks good on that screen…we'll scale up the screen and apply…responsive design principles to make the same content…
