Join Morten Rand-Hendriksen for an in-depth discussion in this video Install and activate Twenty Seventeen, part of WordPress Themes: Twenty Seventeen.
- [Instructor] The Twenty Seventeen theme was released with WordPress 4.7 which came out in December 2016. That means if you've installed the fresh version of WordPress and you're watching this in 2017, the Twenty Seventeen theme is what you'll see when you first visit the front end of your site. If you're upgrading WordPress from a previous version or you have a different theme activated, Twenty Seventeen should be installed on your site but you have to activate it from the back end. In that case go to the Customizer, click on the Change button next to Active Theme, find Twenty Seventeen and click Live Preview, and then click Save and Activate and close the Customizer.
Alternatively you can also go to the WordPress toolbar and select Themes or jump to the back end of WordPress and go to Appearance and Themes, and then select Twenty Seventeen as an option here. If you go to either the Customizer or Appearance and Themes and don't see Twenty Seventeen, it means the theme is not installed in your site. In that case, go to Appearance and Themes, click Add New, and make a search for Twenty Seventeen. From here you'll be able to install the theme directly into your site. Now I can't do it right now because I'm recording this before the theme goes live, but by the time you see this, simply typing in Twenty Seventeen, two words, will show you Twenty Seventeen as the first option and you can install it directly from here.
Once Twenty Seventeen is installed and activated on your site you should see exactly what I'm seeing now, this large full width image of a cactus followed by your site title and your tag line.
