- Pages are made pretty much the same way posts are made. From the WordPress toolbar, simply hover over New and select Page, or from the back end, hover over Pages and select Add New. Both these options will take you to the Page editor, which now that you see it, you'll notice looks a lot like the Post editor. It also works much the same way. You add a title, write your content, add images or media or whatever you want, and schedule or Publish your Page. The main differences between Posts and Pages become apparent when you start looking at the panels on the right.
Gone are categories and tags and instead we have a panel called Page Attributes. This is where you can change the Page template and the Page hierarchy. We'll look at these in the next two movies. Now, if you've been working with previous versions of WordPress, so WordPress before version 4.3, you'll know that when you Publish a Page, you have to open the Screen Options, go to Discussion, scroll down, and make sure that Allow comments is unchecked, otherwise, all your pages get comments. Well, as of WordPress version 4.3, all Pages are set to not have comments by default.
If you want comments on Pages, you have to actively open the Discussion panel and check Allow comments on Pages. The same thing goes for pingbacks and trackbacks. This makes a lot of sense, because there are very few situations where a Page should have comments. So, the option is there, it's just disabled by default. Once your page is created and Published, you can jump to the front end and View the Page. Here you see it with a featured image and all my content and you'll see that Pages work exactly like posts and display really nicely in your site however, if I navigate to the front Page, I have no way of getting back to my Page, because currently I have no navigation that points to the Page, so the Page is on the site, it's just impossible to get to.
We'll address this later on in the course, but for now, just know that your Page has been created.
