- [Instructor] LEED Neighborhood Development Certified Projects reduce vehicle miles traveled, provide access to jobs and services by foot or public transit, promote green building and green infrastructure applications, and protect and conserve sensitive lands through utilizing previously developed sites with existing infrastructure. Compact development is highly encouraged with this rating system. LEED Neighborhood Development is more of a green certification for horizontal development such as roads, open spaces and other site and location related aspects, not the vertical structures and by that I mean the buildings. It could be a block or a couple of blocks of land that has existing development on it or future project in planning stage. The LEED rating system encourages projects to choose a LEED Neighborhood Development Certified Site by awarding multiple points for choosing these locations.
