Get an overview of the different user roles and capabilities available in WordPress and learn how to use them to create a secure and easy to use Intranet.
- [Speaker] With site access restricted…to only logged in users,…we now have to register users in our site…and WordPress has a robust user management system…we can leverage to do several things at once.…Out of the box, the user system is used to assign roles…and capabilities to any registered user.…Each role has a predefined set of capabilities.…A subscriber can only manage their own profile…and nothing else.…A contributor can write and manage their own posts…before they've been published, but they cannot publish them…and cannot edit a post once it's been published.…
An author can publish and manage their own posts,…even after they've been published.…An editor can publish and manage other users posts.…And finally, an administrator can manage the settings…of the site itself.…With these user roles, you can restrict access…and editing capabilities to only staff…and only select members of the staff, if that is required.…For an internet site,…it makes sense to register every staff member as a user…and grant them appropriate user roles.…
