When is the script done?

- So, if you're doing all these rewrites and constantly improving your script, how do you know when your script is actually done? To answer that, I defer to Lorne Michaels, who created Saturday Night Live. When asked a similar question, he famously said that the show doesn't go on because it's ready; it goes on because it's 11:30. In other words, sometimes other practical considerations outside of the material need to be taken into consideration when realizing that your script is complete. I mean, ideally you'd rewrite and rewrite until every single word was flawless, and every plot point was gripping, and every line was completely engrossing to every reader. But, in real life, though, that's not always feasible. In the case of The Assurance, the fact that the world was dying was much more prominent and important in the shooting version of the script. In Seattle, in springtime, it's just, you know, it's so gorgeous and full of life. It wouldn't make a good backdrop at all for this…
