In this video, learn how to prevent single lines of text in a paragraph from getting stranded by a page break—windows and orphans—and learn how to keep paragraphs from splitting across pages, and even how to keep two paragraphs together when a page break appears between them.
- [Instructor] Have you ever been reading through a document…and come across a single line of text all by itself,…stranded at the top or bottom of a page?…It's known as a widow or an orphan,…and it can be distracting, but there are ways…to prevent that from happening here…in Microsoft Word for Office 365 on the Mac.…Scrolling down our Tech Connect document,…0403, if you're catching up,…the last paragraph, as you can see,…is approaching the bottom of our page.…If we were to start adding content…or increasing spacing here and there,…eventually this gets pushed down to a new page.…
And we don't want this last line showing up…all by itself at the top of page two,…or the first line of this paragraph all by itself…at the bottom of this page, with the rest on the next page.…There are ways to keep lines together,…and that's what we're going to explore with this paragraph.…So just click anywhere in the paragraph,…and when we go up to the Format menu,…then go down to Paragraph,…select Line and Page Breaks over here at the top right,…
