Lisa Bock stresses the importance of ensuring quality of service when using VoIP, as VoIP has minimal tolerance for packet loss and disruption. Lisa compares the IP Precedence Value of several IP headers in Wireshark.
- [Instructor] Internet protocol…is a connectionless best effort protocol,…meaning there's no guarantee it will get…to its final destination.…Quality of service makes sure…that voice data is prioritized…when traveling through an IP network.…Now, when you implement quality of service,…real-time traffic is delivered first,…before everything else,…such as Word documents or email.…Quality of service is also called type of service,…quality of service, or in some cases, differential services.…
This is the field value in an IP header…that marks priority traffic.…Now, the concept of priority of service, or type of service,…or quality of service, has been around a long time.…In fact here, I'm at the original IP RFC,…RFC 791.…And if you look here, there is a field value…in IP version 4 that talks about type of service.…There are eight bits or one byte…that allows you to modify that header…to push up the priority.…
And here, you can see some of the priorities…and the precedence and what it does…for that type of traffic.…So when we do look at a header value…
