Examining a capture

- Troubleshooting an unstable and sluggish network involves assessing trouble spots to determine the root cause. Now this can include device malfunction, misconfiguration, or even malware. When users perceive the network is slow, there are most likely errors in the transmission of data or network congestion. When assessing network performance, the three main metrics are latency, throughput, and packet loss. Latency is how long it takes to transmit a packet. And we can measure this by using roundtrip time. Throughput is how much data is sent and received at any given time. When latency is high, throughput goes down and that's because with high latency, the sender doesn't send any packets, which reduces the throughput. Packet loss is when data doesn't make it to the final destination. Keep in mind, the applications and end points will work to manage the delays and congestion.
