- Now when it comes to backing up Exchange most likely you'll be using a third party product for this, but the truth is the Windows server backup tool does a great job of backing up Exchange. So what I'm going to do is set up my mailbox server, and I'm going to back up my databases with that built in tool that's provided with Windows server 2008 and 2008 r two. Notice that in the console here mbx one has three databases. So it's got db one, db three, and pfdb one. So we've got a couple mailbox databases and a public folder database. So on mbx one I'm running 2008 r two, and I want to install the Windows server backup feature. I've actually already done this, but let me show you how you can add this. One of the things you can do is fire up PowerShell and do an import module server manager.
