Join Scott Peterson for an in-depth discussion in this video Universal Windows Platform advanced controls, part of Developing UWP Apps: 3 Custom and Advanced Controls.
- [Instructor] The Universal Windows Platform provides almost 50 controls out of the box, many of which are extremely robust and extensible, controls like auto suggest, the media element, semantics, zoom controls, rich text editors, and even full inking canvases are all part of the Universal Windows Platform today. But what happens when you need some additional functionality or some features that are specific to your organization or what do you do on the rare occasion that you can't find the control that meets your needs? For example, what if you have a text box but you really need to limit it to a specific set of numbers or you need a button control that always needs specific custom branding and animations or a map control that has to always limit the responses and results in a map for longitude and latitude by region in an organization, or maybe an image control that dynamically adds a watermark every time a user views it? These are scenarios where a solid understanding of advanced and custom controls in the Universal Windows Platform really serves as the basis for robust application development.
