Manage mailbox databases
In Exchange 2010, mailbox databases are considered an organization object. So they can live potentially on any mailbox server in your environment. In order to manage them when you're inside the Exchange Management Console, you go down underneath Organization Configuration under mailbox and then you'll see a list of mailbox databases and public folder databases right here on this Database Management tab. Any time you install the mailbox role by default if you just choose the default options and run through a quick install, you're going to get, like you see here, some default mailbox databases. Now, unlike previous versions of Exchange, we no longer have storage groups so those are gone, and we just have this concept of databases. It's either a mailbox database or a public folder database. Notice, that when these are created we get the term mailbox database, or public folder database and then this random number.
