- [Instructor] Whether you realize it or not, controls are and have always been the focal point for everything a user does in an application. When a user sees an image, it's really a control that displays an image. A label is a control that displays text. A country picker is simply a control that displays a list of countries. Back in the early days of software development, a developer would need to draw every single pixel on a screen just to create something as simple as a rectangular text box. Starting with development tools such as Visual Basic, the concept of predefined, what you see is what you get, WYSIWYG user controls came into common use and are now ubiquitous across all development platforms.
The universal Windows platform is no exception, as it provides more controls and more control over controls than any other platform to date. I'm Scott J. Peterson, and this is Mastering the Universal Windows Platform Basic Controls and Patterns.
