There are several Windows 10 Essential Training courses. This video shows how to identify which version of Windows you have, and then helps you choose the right course for your version.
- [Narrator] We have multiple Windows 10 Essential Training Courses in our library because there are different versions of Windows 10 and some people need to keep older versions of Windows for various reasons. So you should check to see which version of Windows you have and make sure you are watching the right training course. First, I like to refer to this Wikipedia page, where we can see a list of the different versions of Windows 10. The original release of Windows 10 came out in July 2015. Then, over the years, Microsoft published some large feature updates that represented significant changes. These feature updates were given names like "Anniversary Update" and "Creators Update." For most people, it's good to run these updates and make sure you have the most current version, unless you have some specific reason to keep an older version of Windows. We're going to talk about updates in more detail later in this course. But to give you an idea of how this works, I need to go into settings. So, I'm going to click on the Start button in the bottom left corner to open the start menu. Then I'll click on the gear icon to go into settings. Here in settings we'll go to the Update and Security category. And on the sidebar on the left, I want to make sure Windows Update is selected. Now, it is a good idea to click this button here to check for updates and install any updates that are available. But as of May 2019, these big feature updates that we're talking about are going to have an additional, separate update option. But you will see those on this screen if they are available. So go ahead and run the updates that you see here. Just make sure you have a current backup before updating. And never update if you're in the middle of an important project. When this is done, you should check to see which version of Windows that you have. So let's reset here. I'm just going to close this window and we're going to go back into settings again. So once again, I'll click on the Start button to open the Start menu. Then I'll click on the gear button to go into settings. This time I'll go into the System category. On the sidebar on the left, I want to scroll all the way down and click on the About subcategory. Then on this screen, we'll just scroll down, and I want to find my version of Windows. So you can see I'm running version one nine zero three. Now, if we go back to that Wikipedia page, we can see that one nine zero three is the May 2019 update. And if you have this version, then the Windows 10 May 2019 Update Essential Training Course is right for you. But if you have one of these other versions, you should either update to one nine zero three, or find the right Windows 10 Essential Training Course for the version that you do have. Now, if you have Version one five zero seven, then you have the original release of Windows 10 and you should use the Windows 10 Essential Training 2015 original release course. Now we do not have a separate course for every version listed here, so you should just find the closest training course for the version that you have. And of course, over time, Microsoft will publish new updates to Windows. So if you have a version of Windows that is newer than one nine zero three, then you should go here to this Wikipedia page on your own computer where you'll see the proper name for it. Don't just look at it here on my screen, because this might be outdated by the time you're watching this course. So, run your updates, check your version, and make sure you're watching the right course.
