This video explains the importance of not only receiving Windows Updates for your servers and workstations but also managing how and when they are downloaded and applied.
- [Narrator] The single most important thing…that you can do to maintain a Windows server…is to stay up to date with your Windows updates.…Updates are likely to be one of the necessary tasks…that garners a lot of whining from users.…Their updates are always inconvenient,…they take too long,…and they never seem to make obvious, helpful changes,…at least not in their eyes.…However, there are a lot of things that can be done,…and a lot of things that have been done,…to make this process a little more painless…and make sure that it's relevant and important.…
We've come a long way since service packs were released…and you had to burn them to a CD,…or order a CD from Microsoft…so that you could update all of your machines.…Updates, for a long time,…were individual, small packages,…and remaining current required us to acquire…all of these download packages and install them,…and that became a little bit of a pain as well.…Especially if you had a machine…that hadn't received updates in quite some time,…it wasn't unusual to see a list of a hundred or more updates…
